The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in jail, but he continued under confinement pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.

This encompassed seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.
